ITINERARY:
Our vehicle leaves Puerto Montt or Puerto Varas heading towards the southwest over surfaced roads for approximately 13 miles. The last 9 miles to the river are over a secondary unsurfaced road.
Arriving at the shore, you will board a McKenzie style drift boat, or a Cata-raft inflatable boat, for approximately 8 miles on the beautiful Río Maullin. Every one receives instructions and proper gear for fishing. The small number of guests ensures that each participant receives personal attention from their guide.
We use #5 and #6 weight rods with floating and sinking lines ( 200 to 250 grains) in all the places we fish.  Most of the fishing will be with streamers with big flies number 4, 6 like: Wollys, Sculpins, Monkeys, Matukas. Sometimes in the afternoon, depending on the weather conditions and water temperature, we may use dry flies from the boat or wade in shallow water. If fish are rising and insects moving on the water, we may use other flies like mayflies, caddis flies, stone flies etc.
Since the landslides during the earthquake of Valdivia in 1960, the Río Maullin can only be navigated with small boats. This protects the river’s surroundings and its flora and fauna. While passing dense and silent forests, you might be lucky enough to catch brown trout, rainbow trout and salmons.  A box lunch is included in our Fishing Excursions.
