SUMMARY: See the flamingos of the great Salar de Atacama in Los Flamencos National Reserve in the Chaxa lagoon; visit the highland lagoons of Miscanti and Miñiques at the base of volcanoes; enjoy lunch in the pre-Inca village of Socaire; and visit the town of Toconao.

SEASON: Year round. Temperatures may vary between 5 to 10 F ( -12 to -15 C) around the Altiplano Lagoons to 86 to 120 F (30 to 48 C) around noon.
ITINERARY: Pick up from your San Pedro hotel or arranged location. Visit the great Salar de Atacama** in Los Flamencos National Reserve where you can enjoy its immensity surrounded by fauna in the Chaxa lagoon. But it’s the flamingos that prove to be the main attraction of the salt with their unique beauty. Then we take the road to the highlands to visit the lagoons of Miscanti and Meñiques at 3,800 MASL*/12,470 Ft at the base of Andean volcanoes. The nature of a landscape of contrasts will delight you. We then enjoy lunch in the pre-Inca village of Socaire, highlighted for its traditional cuisine. Finally, before returning, we visit the town of Toconao. Its bell tower and Church of San Lucas have been declared national monuments since 1951. Return to the town of San Pedro and your hotel.
* MASL: Meters Above Sea Level **Atacama Salt Flat only in private services. Red Rocks or “Aguas Calientes” can be combined in semi-private services.
