These impressive facilities are located at an altitude of 5,000 meters, in the Chajnantor plain, in the Andes of the Atacama desert, the driest in the world. The conditions of dryness and altitude, with almost non-existent rainfall, make this place one of the best windows in the world to observe the stars. The key is that radio waves can pass through Earth’s atmosphere with little distortion, and this remote place allows it exceptionally.
