Chile triumphed again at the ‘Oscars of Tourism’, reinforcing its global leadership thanks to the diversity of its landscapes, the quality of its tourist offerings, and the sustained work with communities that promote nature and adventure tourism.

Chile consolidates its leadership in adventure tourism by winning the top world award. This is the seventh time the country has achieved the title of World’s Best Adventure Tourism Destination at the World Travel Awards, an acknowledgment that highlights leading destinations that offer ideal activities and environments for travelers seeking nature, excitement, and high-level outdoor experiences. In fact, many media outlets describe them as “the Oscars of tourism”, due to their global reach and the level of recognition they provide. In this edition, the country was awarded in five categories: Best Adventure Tourism Destination, Best Romantic Destination (for the Atacama Desert), Best Green Destination, Best Nature Destination, and Best Cruise Destination. These awards not only confirm the quality and diversity of Chilean tourism, but also reflect a sustained effort to combine development, sustainability, and experience.

Beyond the distinctions, the real value lies in understanding why Chile continues to conquer the world: its extreme geography, its focus on conservation, the professionalization process of its tourism industry, and an identity built on the authenticity of its landscapes.

“This award confirms that Chile is an adventure and that we continue to be a destination recognized worldwide for the diversity of our landscapes and the quality of the experiences one can have in the country. This also consolidates the work that Chile has been doing for years: having been the host of the ATTA World Adventure Tourism Summit and holding the South American title 11 times since 2015 shows the maturity of our industry in terms of innovation, sustainability, and professionalization. Today we show the world that our country is prepared to continue growing in adventure tourism,” highlighted the national director of Sernatur, Cristóbal Benítez, after receiving the award in Bahrain.

A decade of leadership in the world:

This year, the Best Adventure Tourism Destination award returns to the hands of Chile, marking a full decade of leadership in this field, since we first won this recognition at the World Travel Awards in 2016.

In the last ten years, Chile has received this recognition seven times: six times consecutively from 2016 to 2021 and now in 2025.

In this year’s competition, Chile outperformed Japan (Asia), Saint Lucia (Caribbean), Costa Rica (Central America), Huesca, Spain (Europe), Ras Al-Khaimah, United Arab Emirates (Middle East), and New Zealand (Oceania), who had won their respective continental competitions.

In the last ten years, Chile has garnered 11 awards in the global competition: 7 for Best Adventure Tourism Destination and 4 for Best Green Destination.
