The Biosphere Reserves are protected areas part of UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere Programme, that seeks to establish a scientific base to improve the conditions of the relation between human beings and the environment.
Today in Chilean territory we can find ten of these reserves, which are formed mostly, but not only, by National Parks and Reserves. In total, the sum of the areas considered Biosphere Reserves exceeds the eleven millions hectares.
